Union Cemetery

"Erected by the United States to mark the burial place of fifteen Confederate Soldiers who died at Kansas City, Missouri, while prisoners of war and whose remains were buried in the city cemetery and subsequently removed to this cemetery, where the individual graves cannot now be identified."

Text on the Plaque:

The Union Cemetery was incorporated by the State of Missouri November 9, 1857and the first interment was made in 1858. Many of the graves have been removed from earlier burying grounds whose capacities had been reduced by fatalities of the cholera epidemics of 1848-1851. The cemetery was the united project of of the citizens of Kansas City and Westport and so was called Union. The main entrance originally was midway on the toll road joining the towns, now Main Street. Here Lie, with their families, founders and builders of Kansas City, Union and Confederate soldiers from the Battle of Westport of 1864, and some who acquired national fame. On March 15, 1937, Kansas City accepted this hallowed ground as a park for rest and contemplation.

A favorite cemetery for paranormal investigators and spirit seekers alike the Union Cemetery is most famous for the "White Lady" who has been seen by many walking through the cemetery at night.  Is is said to includ Indian spirits as well as ghostly black figures are also said to haunt the graveyard.

CCPRS is keeping an open mind, we will conduct our investigation by following the guidelines and mission of the team.

Investigation Oct 9th 7pm

The team: Debbe, Julie, Shayna, Jesse and Mike along with winner of the Raffle Chris Armstrong and Kathy Armstrong, arrived at 6:30 to meet the tour Guide Glen Graham, who at one time took care of the old cemetery.  We would like to thank Glen for all his help during this investigation and all the information on the cottage and the ground s as well as hot spots.

We split up in groups of two, Debbe and Julie with the guest investigators Chris and Kathy, Jesse and Shayna and Glen worked with both groups off and on throughout the evening.

Glen told us about the cowboy that lingers in the cottage however we didn't not seem to make contact.  The place of interest to the team was to place a video recorder in the tomb where they held the dead for burial before 1920's.   We place one investigator at a time in the dark tomb with the video recorder to document any events that may happen through out the night.  Debbe lost her walkie talkie however no one on her team heard it drop on the ground or on the concrete.  Debbe retraced her step with no luck, so walkie talkie gone time to move on.

Julie heard footsteps behind her while she was standing outside the tomb. All the team members felt a creepiness while alone in the tomb but no paranormal activity was captured on video.  A few times the K II did indict a presence but again nothing captured to support the presence of activity. The area inside the tomb was dark, damp and musty.

Below are some photos taken that night.

Investigation Results

CCPRS has read many investigations conducted on the Union Cemetery by other paranormal groups.  While our overall experience was exciting, we can say that the investigation holds some merit to support paranormal activity at this location.  CCPRS team did capture a handful of EVP's, the tomb in which many team members sat in to hold a controlled investigation, no paranormal activity was present at the time our investigators.  Further investigations are needed to say whether CCPRS believes the Union Cemetery is in fact haunted.  We will leave this door open for further investigations.
